Mold 2.0, “Chinese Drywall”
In the peak construction time of 2003 and on, all you heard was the four letter word “MOLD”. Now with Chinese drywall popping up around town, I consider it the mold of today’s issues. This situ has turned prized properties into abandoned ugly ducklings. The smell is offensive, the affect is a cancer. I really feel bad for home owners that been affected by this drywall issue.
The government is trying to step in to see if they can work with FEMA to declare a state of emergency for those affected by this problem. I’ve read that trying to sue the companies responsible is impossible since they don’t recognize US laws being they are “international”. Man, what did we get ourselves into buying this crap. The Chinese have practically no regulation with anything they do or manufactor. The builders want to sue the responsible parties to mitigate the cost of damages but that will probably go nowhere unfortunately. The builders can’t get compensation from the Chinese manufactor to remedy the repairs. I heard recently from a fellow Realtor that she got an estimate from a local contractor for replacement of the drywall in a house that came in at $100,000.oo. This issue makes mold look like a splinter on wood.
